A new year means a new initiative at the Montello Public Library. We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Teen Advisory Board (TAB) that will engage teens, create a culture of ownership, and grow young civic-minded leaders. The Teen Advisory Board will have a trial run from March-August of this year with bi-weekly meetings taking place. Together, we’ll plan and implement the Teen Summer Reading program, gather collective input for teen collection development (yes, teens will have a say in what teen oriented materials the library purchases), and we’ll file an annual report after the trial run is complete in August. We will also write a collective article for the Marquette County Tribune detailing our successes and challenges during the trial run. TAB members will be required to help Jess during the Summer Library Program events.
While our Teen Advisory Board President has already been designated (Garrett K.), we are currently looking for two more TAB Board members—a Vice President and a Secretary. If you are a teen and you are interested in either of these positions, please stop by the library and talk to Jess. These are unpaid, voluntary positions that require regular attendance at meetings. Teen participants will have a job description, and will be required to sign a contract indicating that they will be responsive and work to the best of their abilities to accomplish a goal.
For more details about this new Teen Library Board initiative, or if you’re interesting in being an active participant, please stop by the library.
